Acne is a widespread skin affliction with which most of us will probably be all too familiar. While in many cases acne can respond well to over the counter creams and facial scrubs, there are far too many instances of significantly more severe cases which can be much more difficult to manage, and lead to potentially permanent scarring.
Acne is the simplified name of a skin condition which can include the formation of blackheads, pimple, whiteheads, nodules, and potential scarring. All of these form as a result of the infection of an important structure in the skin called the sebaceous follicles. These are hair follicles associated with a sebaceous gland responsible for producing an oily material called sebum, which is needed for skin and hair health.
These hair follicles become blocked with sebum and other materials, and this blockage is vulnerable to bacterial infections which form the characteristic pustules and nodules of acne. They also cause the inflammatory response which causes the redness and swelling associated with acne. Acne is commonly found on the face, back and shoulders.
Treatment for Acne
Acne can hugely affect your appearance and confidence, particularly when it is quite severe and does not respond well to standard treatments like spot creams and washes. Fortunately there are cosmetic treatments which can effectively address the issue, like our medical microdermabrasion treatment.
Microdermabrasion is a tool which involves applying a finely ground crystalline material to lightly abrade the skin. This action strips away debris and dead cells leaving only the healthier, more robust skin underneath. The action of microdermabrasion can quickly leave your skin looking visibly healthier, and this treatment type can clear obstructed pores to prevent the onset of further acne.
Microdermabrasion at Simply Smooth in Bradford (near Leeds), can also be offered alongside laser treatment for fantastic results. The laser beam can kill spot causing bacteria and microdermabrasion can reveal healthier skin. We offer a course of treatment for lomg term results.
